Oh, wow. Can I (as the resident autobiography and self-representation expert) point out that A) she turned herself into the self-representational subject (instead of the represented object) with pretty great aplomb there; and b) what stopped her momentarily on her way back to you, Carter, was her reflection in the glass fireplace cover? Such a great moment of specularity there.

I can even theorize your daughter. Can I help "self-specularity" be one of her early words? Hee.

It's true, my secret is out: the baby occasionally damages things in her joyful and creative play, but her mama...is simply a klutz, especially when she's tired. Actually, the iPod slipped out of its case and onto the tile floor of the sun room almost as soon as I picked it up because I didn't realize it wasn't more firmly secured in there.

If Carter had damaged something of mine that I loved as much as he loves his iPod, I probably would have cried. Instead, I apologized repeatedly--this really is my week for guilt--and Carter, like the sweet husband he is, forgave me without hesitation or caveat.

She's so cute, even without a picture. "Ike!" "Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah!"

I'd like to say I didn't encourage her this time, but the recording speaks for itself, literally. I can't help it, she's SOOO cute. And it was nearly ten.

Dr. S

We've tried the play laptop (too fake looking) we even gave her an old remote with no batteries, but still she likes what she like. I too hope that it will soon be 'her' stuff that she likes.

D'oh. Well: I am currently looking at play versions of these things--play laptops, play cell phones, play remotes--still trying to think up a good birthday present for her. I realize that what she wants is what *you* have, not what is her version of what you have, but maybe she'll soon go into a phase where she wants *her own.*
